러시아의 화가인 그는,

주요 미술사 학자이자 에르미타주 박물관 큐레이터인

안드레이 이바노비치 소모프의 집안에서 태어나

어린 나이에 18세기 미술과 음악에 관심을 갖게 되었다고 해요.

소모프는 1888년부터 1897년까지

일리야 레핀 휘하의 제국 예술원에서 공부했습니다.

그곳에서 만난 친구를 통해 또 다른 예술세계 회원들을

만나 예술의 세계를 창간하며, 정기 간행물에 자유롭게

기여했습니다. 그는 많은 예술세계 회원들처럼

동성애자였다고 해요.

Watteau와 Fragonard의 영감을 받아,

그는 수채화와 과슈를 다루는 것을 더 좋아했습니다.

3년 동안 그는 18세기 초상 화가의 방식으로 그려진

그의 걸작 "Lady in Blue"를 작업했습니다.

​

1910년대에 소모프는 알렉산더 블로크의 시에

로코코 할레퀸 장면과 삽화를 많이 실었습니다.

그의 많은 작품들이 해외에서 전시되었어요.
