Maria Primachenko는

우크라이나를 대표하는 화가입니다.

그림을 그렸을 뿐 아니라

도자 위에 그리기도 하고 자수롤 놓는 등

여러 다양한 작업을 했다고 해요.

작가는 어린 시절 소아마비를 앓았는데,

이때부터 사려 깊고 자연과 생명을 사랑하는

사람으로 자랐다고 해요.

작가의 그림은 우크라이나에서 오랫동안 전해져 내려왔던

전통 공예를 많이 닮아있습니다.

우크라이나 사람들의 삶과 문화를 담고 있는

전래동화나 신화들을 묘사했어요.

초반에는 채도가 낮은 색들을 사용했지만

70-80년대에는 색을 다르게 쓰기 시작했습니다.

공간 묘사는 없지만

색으로 가득 채운 배경이

공간의 효과를 나타내고 있어요.

어린 시절 자연을 바라보며

모래 위에 막대기로 그림을 그렸던 것으로 시작했다는 작가는

혼자 그림을 그리며 자신만의 세계를 만들어냈습니다.

단순하면서도 자유롭고 아이 같은 작가의 그림이

매력적으로 다가옵니다.
